| Mother's Day is a time of commemoration and celebration for Mom. It is a time of breakfast in bed, family gatherings, and a chance to say I love you! The earliest Mother's Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. During the 1600's, England celebrated a day called "Mothering Sunday". During this time many of the England's poor worked as servants for the wealthy. As most jobs were located far from their homes, the servants would live at the houses of their employers. On Mothering Sunday the servants would have the day off and were encouraged to return home and spend the day with their mothers. A special cake, called the mothering cake, was often brought along to provide a festive touch. I truly hope whatever your plans are for this special day, that you know you are loved and appreciated for all that you do. Being a mother is a tremendous gift from God and an awesome responsibility to our children that look to us for guidance. A mothers job is never done but understood a little better when the child becomes the parent. Real Mothers Author Unknown Real Mothers don't eat quiche; they don't have time to make it. Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils are probably in the sandbox. Real Mothers often have sticky floors, filthy ovens and happy kids. Real Mothers know that dried play dough doesn't come out of shag carpets. Real Mothers don't want to know what the vacuum just sucked up. Real Mothers sometimes ask "why me?" and get their answer when a little voice says, "because I love you best". Real Mothers know that a child's growth is not measure by height or years or grade . . .it is marked by the progression of Mama to Mommy to Mom. |
